Instructors Bios:
Stephanie Kirby Director
Stephanie has been dancing since she was three years old. She studied tap, trapeze, ballet and as soon as she was old enough, point. After 13 years of studying dance at Gayle Norwood Dance Studio, she took some time off to pursue other interests. Stephanie also studied music and performed in several singing groups. But missing dance, she decided to enroll in dance classes at college. A first she concentrated on ballet, which was her first love, then decided to try something a little different and signed up for a modern dance class. At first, she was a little skeptical when they told students that they would be dancing barefoot. But after the first assignment, which was to choreograph an interpretive dance, Stephanie was hooked. “I loved the freedom to express using music and body.” After college, Stephanie jumped on the fitness bandwagon and became certified to teach aerobics and kickboxing. But after teaching aerobics and kickboxing for four years, she started getting burned out and decided to look for a new challenge. In 1998, Stephanie auditioned for a position on the Jacksonville Jaguars Cheerleading Squad, “The Roar”, and made it. “It was allot of hard work and really made me brush up on all of my dancing skills.” Moving to New York from Jacksonville earlier this year, Stephanie has started a new Dance Trance in the big apple. Classes are currently available once a week, but plans are to increase the number of classes available. She is ecstatic to be a part of the “Dance Trance” National Fitness group & the class is enthusiastic about having the program in New York. “Dancing is something everyone can and should do. Not only is it great for the soul, but dancing can change the way you feel about yourself. It can give you the self-confidence to stand up straight, walk into a room full of strangers and say this is me, take it or leave it!”<
